BOLTON OUTDOOR ADVENTURE FUND
ABOUT US
Bolton Outdoor Adventure Fund
Mission: Bolton Outdoor Adventure Fund is a not for profit organization whose purpose is to provide access to mountain-based outdoor recreation instruction and programming in and around Bolton, including Chittenden and Washington counties, for underprivileged/underrepresented children living in Vermont.
Bolton Outdoor Adventure Fund will establish a scholarship fund to cover the cost of outdoor recreation programs for Vermont kids to remove the barriers that would otherwise prevent their participation.
Bolton Outdoor Adventure Fund recognizes the value of outdoor recreation in Vermont as one of the greatest assets our state has to offer. We seek to promote equitable access for all VT kids to the fun, education, and beauty that outdoor recreation uniquely provides. We believe that early access to the outdoors creates lifelong stewards for the natural environment, promotes healthy lifestyles, elevates joy, and brings people together.
Bolton Outdoor Adventure Fund will create these opportunities in two ways:
- By providing an application that grants access to funds to pay for local programming on the childs' behalf.
- By partnering with school districts and other non-profit or community-based organizations to serve populations of children with low-income, disabilities, BIPOC, new American, LGBTQIA+, and other underserved or underrepresented groups.
Scholarships will support access to outdoor programs that operate in and around Bolton, Richmond, and Waterbury, which may include (but is not limited to) programs offered by Bolton Valley Resort, Cochran's Ski Club, Petra Cliffs, Stowe Mountain Bike Academy, etc.
While many of the businesses and organizations that provide outdoor programming already offer some scholarship or discount programs on their own, we acknowledge that their ability to provide free or reduced cost programming is inherently limited. This organization will "level up" those efforts by putting access at the center of the organization's mission and raising funds to cover the full cost of programming, creating more opportunities than any one business could do on its own and supporting the local businesses and organizations that help get our kids into the mountains.
Incorporation: The entity is being incorporated as a Vermont nonprofit corporation. The organization will apply as soon as possible for status as a 501(c)(3) organization under the IRS Code. Prior to obtaining approval from the IRS, the Vermont Outdoor Business Alliance (VOBA) has agreed to act as a fiscal sponsor for the organization to allow donations to receive tax deductible treatment allowed for charitable contributions under the IRS Code.
